“Fôlego” na Bienal do Livro

O escritor australiano Tim Winton, autor de obras de não-ficção, contos, livros infantis e romances como “Fôlego”, esteve neste último sábado (12/09) na XIV Bienal Internacional do Livro, que acontece de 10 a 20 de setembro no Rio de Janeiro.

“Fôlego”, que chegou ao Brasil em 2008 e já está caminhando para sua segunda edição, conta como as aventuras da adolescência de Pikelet em cima de sua prancha de surf o ajudaram a crescer. A busca angustiante de seus personagem pelo ar durante boa parte de seus romances e a descrição detalhista do mar, são traços característicos da narrativa de Winton.

Na Bienal, o escritor australiano participou no espaço Café Literário de um papo com o também escritor David Wroblewski, mediado por Claudia Nina, sobre o tema “Tornando-se adulto em páginas de romance”.

Quando perguntado sobre a que ele atribui o sucesso de “Fôlego” em lugares de culturas tão diferentes, Winton disse: “Realmente não sei. Escrevo de um lugar diferente e com uma geografia muito particular, a costa oeste da Austrália. Por isso é uma surpresa que a história tenha encontrado audiência em tantos países e culturas diferentes”.

Sobre sua grande ligação com o oceano, o escritor mencionou que desde pequeno mergulha, pesca e surfa, e ainda hoje faz isso com a paixão que marcou sua identidade. “O oceano é muito importante em meu trabalho e minha vida. O surf e as criaturas do mar alimentam minha imaginação. Uma vez que nadou ao lado de uma baleia, surfou com golfinhos ou mergulhou com tartarugas, você fica viciado”. Questionado sobre o que lhe tira o fôlego, Winton foi enfático “O longo sofrimento da natureza, em particular dos oceanos é o que me tira o fôlego”, conclui.

Tim Winton também aproveita sua primeira vinda ao Brasil para lançar por aqui seu outro romance, “A mulher perdida”, livro passado na Europa escrito anos depois de voltar para a Austrália após morar na França.

The Australian writer, Tim Winton, author of non fiction stories, tales, children book and romances, such as ‘Breath’, came last Saturday, September 12th, to the XIV International Biennial of the Book, that happens from September 10th until the 20th in Rio de Janeiro. ‘Breath’, was released in Brazil in 2008 is already going to its second edition in the country. The Book tells how Pikelet’s adventures passed on his surfboard as a teenager helped his growth. His character overwhelming search for air during the romance and the sea’s detailed description are some of Witon’s narrative characteristics.

In this year Biennial, the Australian writer was invited to the ‘Literary Café’ to chat with another writer, David Wroblewski, on the subject ‘becoming an adult on a novel’s pages’. When he was asked about the success of his book ‘Breath’ in places of such different cultural backgrounds, Winton said: “I really don’t know. I write about a totally different place which has a very particular geographic formation, Australia’s west coast. And it’s a surprise that this story has succeeded in many countries and different cultures.”

And about his great connection with the ocean, the writer mentioned that since he was a child he dives, fishes and surfs, and nowadays he still does the same things with a passion that shaped his identity. “The ocean is really important for my work and my life. Surf and sea creatures feed my imagination. Once you swam side to side with a whale, surfed with dolphins or dived with sea turtles you get addicted to it.” Questioned about what makes him breathless, Winton answered emphatically: “Nature’s suffering, in particular the oceans’ suffering is what make me breathless,” stated him.

Tim Winton had also the opportunity to release his new romance, ‘The lost woman’, based on a story that happens in Europe, that he wrote years after he got back to Australia coming back from France, where he lived.
