O inverno com o fenômeno El Ñino tem sido muito intenso no norte do Pacífico para o time do Towsurfer.com, que surfa swell após swell em Oregon, Havaí, Califórnia e México, desde setembro de 2009.

Mesmo com todos os swells gigantes direcionados para o Havaí, a costa oeste tem recebido muitas ondulações de bons tamanhos.
Somente no mês passado, a costa oeste já provou ser bem recompensadora com diversos swells gigantes. Tim Ditty, Chuck Patterson, Eric Akiskalian, TJ Saeman e Bryce Saeman pegaram duas vezes Cortes Bank, Central Coast, México e algumas outras localizações com bons resultados.

Chuck Patterson passou a ser o primeiro surfista de SUP a surfar em Cortes, durante a primeira sessão de surf na remada registrada no pico. Chuck surfou com Greg e Rusty Long, Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker, Kelly Slater, Peter Mel, Nathan Fletcher, TJ Saeman, Bryce Saeman e outros representantes da elite do big surf. Nesse dia, as condições estavam perfeitas com 15 a 18 pés sólidos, conforme noticiamos aqui no CarlosBurle.com.
A segunda trip para Cortes foi uma aposta de risco com clima de condições não lá muito boas. Mas, com um pouco de sorte, abriu uma janela que permitiu um sólido swell de 35 a 40 pés de face e uma sessão alucinante de tow-in. Essa trip também foi notícia aqui CarlosBurle.com.
Eric Akiskalian, com 49 anos, recebeu recentemente sua primeira nomeação ao prêmio Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards na categoria ‘Ride of the Year’ por sua impressionante onda em South Reef Oregon. A onda foi estimada em 50 pés de tamanho e é, provavelmente, a maior onda já registrada e talvez a maior onda já surfada em Oregon.
Com mais dois sólidos meses restantes para o inverno no hemisfério norte e com o El Ñino previsto para durar até junho, podemos ter certeza que a equipe do Towsurfer vai continuar a perseguir big swells com grandes chances de conseguir ondas ainda maiores.

It has been a very active El Nino winter season in the Northern Pacific for the Towsurfer.com crew. Needless to say, they have been scoring swell after swell in Oregon, Hawaii, California and Mexico ever since September 2009.
Even though all the giant swells have been focusing its energy on Hawaii, the west coast has still been getting some really good size surf and lots of it. This past month alone has proven to be a very rewarding one with more giant swells. Tim Ditty, Chuck Patterson, Eric Akiskalian, TJ Saeman and Bryce Saeman have scored Cortes Bank twice, Central Coast, Mexico and a few other select locations with great luck and results.
Chuck Patterson became the first SUP surfer to ever conquer Cortes during the first ever recorded paddle session with Greg and Rusty Long, Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker, Kelly Slater, Peter Mel, Nathan Fletcher, TJ Saeman, Bryce Saeman and a host of other big wave elites. The conditions on this day were perfect with solid 15′-18′ surf.
The second trip to Cortes was a complete gamble with weather conditions not being all that good, but with a little luck, a window did open which allowed for some solid 35′-40′ face heights and some amazing towing.

49 year old Eric Akiskalian, has recently received his first entry nomination from the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards under the ‘Ride of The Year’ category for his amazing ride at South Reef in Oregon. The wave has been estimated to be 45′-50′ tall and it is probably the largest wave ever recorded and maybe even the largest wave ever surfed in Oregon.
With another solid two months left in the Northern hemisphere winter andd El Nino expected to last thru June 2010, you can be assured that the Towsurfer crew will continue to chase big swells and in hopes of scoring even larger surf along the way.
