A temporada do El Ninho de 2009-2010 foi incrível. Muitos surfistas passaram seus verões no norte da Califórnia. Dormiram em vans e surfaram grandes ondas em Mavericks. No final da temporada, o inverno no hemisfério sul começou e trouxe 15 a 20 pés sólidos de surf em Dungeons. Quem está em Dungeons está amarradão.

Uma tempestade compacta, mas intensa e próxima (a cerca de 1000-1500 milhas de Cape Town), formada na primeira semana de maio, fez Dungeons acordar com boas condições de surfe com ondas grandes, vento fraco e tempo bom.

Não foi o maior swell de todos os tempos nem o swell que chegou mais cedo nem nada de tão especial. Mas, foi um swell com excelentes condições para abrir o inverno no hemisfério sul e fazer funcionar a mais famosa onda de Cape Tow, na África do Sul. É melhor os big riders de plantão estarem preparados porque vem muito mais pela frente!

Dungeons wake up with good waves kicking off the southern Hemisphere winter

The great el ninho winter of 2009-10 was amazing. Many surfers spent their own summer in Northern California sleeping in vans and charging giant Maverick’s. And when the Southern Hemisphere winter kicked off on Saturday, May 8th with solid 15 to 20-fot surf at Dungeons, you can bet that they were stoked.

A compact but rather intense and nearby storm (1000-1500 miles away form Cpe Town) formed late in the first week in May in the 8th for DungeonsThe swell was also offering light wind, clean conditions and fair weather.

There it is. Not the biggest-ever or earliest-ever or some other hyperbole but a damn big, damned clean swell to kick off the southern Hemisphere winter. And we are hoping for more!
