2010 Nelscott Reef Contest: mais um evento na remada para o circuito mundial Big Wave World Tour.

O “Nelscott Reef Contest 2010″ será mais um evento de big surfe na remada e fará parte do “Big Wave World Tour”. Após cinco anos de surf rebocado por jet ski (tow in), esse evento de ondas grandes será disputado no braço e o recém-criado circuito mundial de ondas grandes, “Big Wave World Tour”, vai incluí-lo como um de seus eventos para a temporada 2010.

O “Big Wave World Tour” é uma ideia do lendário surfista de ondas grandes, Gary Linden, de Oceanside (Califórnia). Após 20 anos como diretor e organizador de eventos de ondas grandes em todo mundo, a companhia de Gary formatou um tour mundial de ondas grandes no Chile, Peru, México e Califórnia. Neste ano de 2010, será a segunda temporada do BWWT que vai crescer de quatro para cinco eventos, incluindo o “Nelscott Reef”.

O “Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic” iniciou em 2005. Nos três primeiros anos, o evento rolou como tow in. E, em 2008, profissionais testaram e remaram em Nelscott. Todo mundo pegou onda e concordaram que Nelscott seria um bom palco para um evento de ondas grandes na remada.

Como resposta ao sucesso desse teste, os organizadores adicionaram uma segunda bateria no ano seguinte. A categoria Paddle, em 2009, provou ser a mais popular entre os profissionais e fãs, expandindo para 24 competidores e sete baterias para 2010. “Essa foi uma progressão natural para nós. Eu estava muito feliz, porque, pelo segundo ano consecutivo, todos os profissionais ficaram mais animados com o desafio de remar nas ondas grandes de Nelscott. Neste ano, mudamos o formato para acomodá-los”, disse John Forse, fundador do evento.

O ”Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic” é, agora, o mais longo evento de ondas grandes do mundo a acontecer anualmente.

Enquanto outros eventos de ondas grandes pararam devido à falta de condições de surfe, baixa premiação ou problemas de organização, os organizadores do Nelscott Reef conseguiram o local perfeito e superar todas deficiências para realizar a competição mais consistente de ondas grandes do mundo.

2010 Nelscott Reef Contest shifts to paddle in

Lincoln City, Oregon — Behemoth, LLC is proud to announce that the 2010 contest will be a paddle in event and will be part of the Big Wave World Tour. After 5 years of operating as a Tow In focused event, the contest will now become a paddle in big wave surfing event. The Big Wave World Tour will include Nelscott Reef as one of its stops for the 2010 season.

The Big Wave World Tour is the brainchild of legendary big wave surfer, Gary Linden of Oceanside, California. After 20 years of being Contest Director and Organizer of big wave events all over the world, Gary’s company, Rogue Wave Events, has formed the world’s first big wave tour, with events in Chile, Peru, Mexico, and California. 2010 will be the second season for the tour, which will grow from 4 events to 5, including Nelscott Reef.

The Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic was started as a Tow In surfing contest in 2005. For the first three years the event operated as a tow in only contest and in 2008 added a paddle in heat as a test to see if the pros could paddle Nelscott. Everyone caught waves and agreed Nelscott was a great paddle in venue.

In response to the demand to paddle, the organizers added a second heat the following year. The Paddle In event in 2009 proved to be the most popular, with the pros and fans alike prompting the expansion of the Paddle In to a full 24 man, 7 heat event for the 2010 contest. “This was a natural progression for us”, said John Forse, event founder and Nelscott Pioneer.

“I was so stoked that for the second year in a row all the pros were more excited about the challenge of paddling into huge waves than towing in. This year we listened and changed the format to accommodate them”. Having run every year since the first contest in 2005, the Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic is now the longest continuously running big wave event in the World.

While other big wave events have stopped and started due to lack of contestable surf, adequate purse or organizational problems, Nelscott Reef organizers have managed to provide the perfect venue and overcome budget shortfalls every year to become the most consistent big wave contest in the world.

The Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic is honored and proud be a part of the Big Wave World Tour and promote big wave surfing internationally.

O Nelscott Reef Tow-In Classic 2009, competição de surf rebocado que acontece na cidade de Lincon em Oregon (EUA), foi finalizado com sucesso em ondas de até 30 pés de face nesta sexta-feira (23/10).

Adam Replogle e Alistair Craft venceram o evento de tow-in pelo segundo ano. O californiano Anthony Tashnick venceu a competição de ondas grandes na remada e o australiano Ross Clarke-Jones saiu vitorioso na categoria Kingfish.

Nessa edição, apenas o brasileiro, Luiz Jardini, que reside no Hawaii, participou do evento.
